I’m Not the Typical Blogger actually, that’s not even true; I am not a blogger at all. I opened this account sometime in 2009, and now it's the 2nd of December, 2010, and I’m just making my first post. Lol! This should go in the record books.
Anyway, my meeting with Jonathan yesterday was very insightful. Jonathan is a man of great experience in the Oil & Gas industry. To be honest, I consider it a privilege to have a friend like him.
Like most of us, I have a dream to become a young, successful billionaire. So, I sometimes dabble in what might seem to be the business venture that will lead to my big break. Just writing this now makes me reflect on the mistakes I’ve made in my quest to acquire wealth.
The first major blow or should I say disappointment was when I lost £10,000 in Northern Rock shares (that’s another story I’ll probably blog about later).
Coming back to Nigeria from the UK, I was determined to become successful. I had a vision and painted a pretty picture of the kind of investments, businesses, assets, etc., I wanted to have. Not sure if you know this, but Nigeria generates about 90% of its GDP from crude oil exports. So naturally, the obvious way to make good money seemed to be through crude oil trading.
After six months or so of running around like a headless chicken; dealing with countless SPAs, ATBs, CPAs, and still having nothing to show for it, I was fortunate to meet Jonathan, who saved me from a whole lot of stress.
I know someone who quit his job to chase BLCO. It’s been over three years now, still no product, no job, no money and he has a family to support. I just wish I could say to him, “Hey, quit this wild goose chase. Get a regular job or trade in refined products, where there’s no mystery.”
There’s a scripture in the Bible that says, “My people perish for lack of knowledge.” I strongly believe that. One key factor that separates an ordinary man from a successful one is the kind of information he has access to. And to get the right information, you need to be around the right people. The people you surround yourself with (friends, spouse, business partners) can significantly shape your future. I’m not saying that good information alone is all you need, but it’s a vital ingredient in attaining success.
In Summary:
-
Get good, accurate information from a reliable source by being in the right place, at the right time, around the right people.
-
Avoid mysterious businesses. If your only reference is “someone who knows someone who did it and it worked,” be cautious. Get solid facts. Understand how the entire process works. Do your homework thoroughly.
